I’d be willing to pony up big for a winger like Tarasenko.
As far as the D is concerned, I’d say Jones has earned a look.

Benning can sit for a game or two. Way too many penalties against a lethal PP squad last night. |

How close is Sekera to being back, anyone know? I think I would rather see a less than full speed Sereka over Bouwmeester on the second pair. I like the thought of giving Jones a look until Sekera comes back (ideally after a conditioning stint). - Beergu

Gunnarsson is more effective than Bouwmeester and would require far less cap maneuvering. |

No thanks to Beaumeester…. Parayko on the other hand, absolutely, do it now..
I thought there was an offer for him last summer, Nurse and our first which the oilers declined ,thank god... So Stauffer said... Yammer and a first, yes |

You didn’t ask me but I’ll answer anyways I think he starts 3rd pairing with the chance to move up....should shelter him a bit incase he struggles |

Who’d be the 2nd pair? Russell and Benning struggled together if I recall correctly. |

But if Gravel struggles and Jones shows he can handle it then that changes |

He's around the same age as when Klefbom came up the first time. I'd say give him the 3rd pair slot for now and see how he handles it. I think Hitch will have to spread the minutes a bit more with Klefbom out, but I could be wrong. |

Disagree. Our depth is fine. Not contender level but plenty fine for a bubble team that spends 21mil on two forwards. |

Larsson: Good top 4 guy, eats minutes, can survive on the top pairing
Nurse: Good top 4 guy (again), not as valuable as Larsson, but can hit, defend and get points.
Russell: Fringe top 4 guy, has been better this year, but still not someone you want playing a tonne on the second pairing.
Gravel: No complaints, alright at being on the bottom pairing, would rather him be a seventh dman.
Wideman: Haven't seen enough of him, but again I'd rather him be a seventh D.
Benning: Ass. Terrible. Awful. Good rookie season, since then he's been a waste of a roster spot
Garrison: Even more ass.
After Russell, it takes a pretty sharp decline. With a healthy Sekera and Klefbom, I find it'll actually be a pretty damn good defensive core.
I guess it's not bad depth. May have exaggerated. Like with Klefbom healthy the top two pairings aren't all that bad and Gravel-Benning/Wideman is a fine bottom pairing. But the lineup I proposed will get ripped apart. |

Funny you mention both Benning and Gravel in a negative light yet both are excelling in their role since Hitch took over. They're killing it in their minutes together and despite taking a lot of penalties yesterday, Benning only had 6mins worth in the other 25 games. He remains what he has been since he joined the league: a solid bottom pairing Dman.
My point with the depth comment is to point out that you're ignoring a big factor in why our blueline is suffering: Sekera's absence. Sure, he's no world beater but he was an active positive contributor and his presence has been a factor in why the team hadn't really been able to pursue a notable upgrade. Almost all teams suffer when they're missing two top-4 Dmen; we're not an exception.
Take away Trouba and Myers from the Jets and how do they look?
Morrissey- Byfuglien
Morrow- Kulikov
Niku- Chiarot
Not much better and they're supposed to be a contender yet you wouldnt describe their D depth as awful. Only a handful of teams have the depth to handle that hit. |
